Tirana has quietly become one of Europe's most interesting destinations for hair restoration: prices at a third of Western European levels, modern private clinics, and a short flight from Italy. But "cheap and close" is not a selection standard. After coordinating hundreds of international patients, here is the checklist we recommend before booking a hair transplant anywhere in Albania.
1. Verify the medical licensing
Every legitimate clinic operates under physicians licensed by the Order of Physicians of Albania (Urdhri i Mjekëve), and every doctor has a public registry number you can check. If a clinic cannot tell you who its supervising physician is, or the registry number, keep looking. This one question filters out most problem cases.
2. Ask who actually performs the implantation
In high-volume clinics, marketing shows a famous surgeon while technicians do most of the work across a dozen parallel patients. Boutique clinics run fewer procedures per day with the specialist present throughout. Neither model is automatically wrong — but you should know which one you are buying before you pay a deposit.
3. Demand a fixed written quote
The most common complaint in hair-transplant tourism is the price that grows: a low teaser number, then extras for anesthesia, medications, "extra grafts" or aftercare. A serious clinic gives you a written all-inclusive quote after assessing your case — and it does not change on procedure day. 4. Read reviews you can verify
Testimonials on a clinic's own website are marketing. Google reviews with names, dates and reviewer histories are evidence. Read the most recent twenty, read the critical ones, and check whether the clinic replies. A rating built on volume — say, 4.8 or higher across 100+ reviews — is very hard to fake.
5. Check the aftercare plan before booking
A transplant's result is decided over 12–15 months, not on procedure day. Ask exactly who answers your questions at week 2 and month 6, and in which language. 6. Compare like with like
